Cats and dogs feel pain and fear as humans do-no different-which is sufficient to justify humane treatment, as a civilized nation. China literally *boils alive* millions of cats and dogs every year for fur and meat. Guangdong China alone boils alive 10,000 cats a day as reported in CHINA DAILY. I have seen the videos of live cats thrown in large potato sacks, and thrown-still alive-in boiling water-I cannot even imagine the agony as boiling water enters their lungs, eyes, ears, etc.
I was shocked to learn about an internal memo supporting the continued import of dog and cat fur. This sentiment does not speak for me, nor does it express the wishes of the majority of Canadian citizens.
Under the World Trade Organization Agreements, nations can justify trade prohibitions in certain circumstances, including where necessary to protect public morals or to protect human health or animal welfare. Given these requirements, Canada is entirely within its rights to ban trade in cat and dog fur products.
Consider the following:
- The Canadian government claims it spent between $1.8 and $3.6 million in 2009 just to attempt to enforce the few regulations that govern the seal hunt. Yet Canada's commercial seal hunt brought in less than $1.5 million that same season.
- The proposed WTO challenge in regards to the EU seal product trade ban would cost an estimated $10 million and many say stands little chance of success.
In the name of humanity and all that is Civilized--please stop the trade in cat and dog fur. Please choose the ethical and moral path by banning the import of this mercilessly cruel product.

PS-many protest around the world cat and dog fur and will not tourist to your County of Canada. They oppose cats and dogs boiled and/or skinned alive for coats and garments. Thank you for your time
please lets stop this cruelty to all animals they are a life that feel a pain and fear they were created by the same creator and lets help them to survive!!!
