Kudos for Closing Your Wells Fargo Account!

Berkeley, California has closed its $300M account with Wells Fargo, setting an example all other cities in America should follow.

Berkeley City Council members made the decision based on reports of Wells Fargo's foreclosure abuses and a desire to find alternative services that are less abusive and more consumer-friendly.

According to several sources, little of the billions of dollars Wells Fargo received in bailout and emergency funds has been used to revive economic growth. The bank has neither cooperated effectively with government programs to prevent foreclosures nor done enough to increase credit flow to small businesses.

Berkeley council members hope the decision will send a message to all Big Banks. "I feel that this is one way in which we can make a statement and push for wider changes and promote better banking practices and more equity in our society," Council member Jesse Arreguin told ABC in San Francisco.

Tell Berkeley City Council you applaud their decision!
We, the undersigned, thank you for your decision to close your account with Wells Fargo.

Many of us are experiencing serious financial hardship due to actions by Big Banks like Wells Fargo, who despite receiving taxpayer bailouts and huge money awards, have refused to now help those they've harmed or to use the funds, as intended, to revive the economy.

Individually, victims of this abuse have almost nowhere to turn for help, and many have lost their homes and their health over a crisis they did not cause. They have no money to hire lawyers to protect them from past and continued abuses.

That a city worth millions of dollars would step up and make this bold statement on behalf of all of those who have no resources to defend themselves, is worthy of praise and support.

We want you to know how much we appreciate your decision, the message you are sending to Big Banks and the example you are setting for other cities and those who have the money to make a difference.

Kudos to you!
