MRSA- HOSPITAL ACQUIRED STAPH INFECTIONS

MRSA or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus is resistant to methicillin and penicillin based antibiotics. These facts are often hidden from view or seriously played down by the health industry as a whole.

Sixty five percent of all Hospital acquired staff infections are MRSA.

MRSA is often life threatening for the elderly, the Young and those who are immune compromised. This Antibiotic resistant strain accounts for 100,000 deaths each year and has reportedly affected as many as two million People. The true account of those who have been afflicted have not been fully recognized because several states still refuse to mandate reporting of antibiotic strains of infections.

Today most Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Rehab Centers refuse to test people who have the greatest incidence of life threatening  risk. Our Seniors are often immune deficient and have the greatest need to be tested. Still care givers continue to undermine the risk and the extent of the problem. Frequency of Hospitalization and Compromised immune systems should be reason enough to warrant frequent MRSA testing. However our Health Institutions find this Idea wasteful and idiotic.

MRSA in the Health setting is often associated with Antibiotic Resistant Pneumonia, Antibiotic resistant Urinary track infections, antibiotic resistant Bloodstream infections and surgical site infections that are antibiotic resistant. In some cases their is no antibiotic that can  stop the spread of infection and in other cases, the Antibiotics Used can cause serious disabilities. Such is the case with Vancomycin that has been known to shut down Healthy Kidneys in the treatment of MRSA.

I believe that legislation is needed to protect the interest of our citizens that bare the result of  gross negligence  from the State's Department of Health to the Institutions themselves.  I propose that high risk patients be tested upon arrival to the emergency room and /or upon admittance to Hospital, Nursing Home,or a Rehab Center. Furthermore, I propose a manditory disclosure of all antibiotic resistant infections based on billing codes, and /or doctor reports and/or Lab reports. These disclosures to be made public by catagory and by institution from the Web site of the State's Department of Health.
