Schools For Abuse Survivors and Victims

Abuse is a topic that is not addressed enough in society. It's one of those hush hush topics people feel they shouldn't discuss or talk about and with the ignorance regarding abuse and what goes on behind closed doors, people really don't know what it's like for survivors and victims of abuse and the life they lead. Many survivors and victims remain silent, afraid to speak due to being judged, misunderstood, ridiculed, and bullied by others. They put on a smile and pretend nothing is wrong as they try to blend in with everyone else around them.
Yet, behind that smile is a heart filled with pain, a heart longing for someone to reach out and tell them it's going to be okay for what they need to hear is they are not alone in what they face. It isn't easy growing up in a home ravaged by violence and broken apart, where you live in fear most of the time, wondering when the next time will be that you feel the wrath of your abuser so you constantly have to walk on eggshells and watch your back in the very safety of your own home! Homes are supposed to be the one place you can feel safe. With all the violence going on, it can be hard to focus at school and actually get the help that these survivors and victims of abuse need.
Even survivors who are no longer living in an abusive situation and have managed to break free struggle with issues in their every day lives. Trying to survive out there on their own, they still face challenges from the past. It's easy for survivors and victims to feel as if they don't belong and to feel they are outcasts. I believe it's important for survivors and victims to have a place where they can go and be around others who have been through similar situations to help them be able to grow more as survivors and to heal more. Being around and interacting with other survivors and victims makes one feel they are not the only one facing these challenges in life.
I propose there be schools funded by the government that are set aside specifically for survivors and victims of abuse, where they can learn how to deal with certain issues they face after the abuse has stopped and learn how to cope as well as learn different ways to heal in a healthy environment. These schools should have counselors on duty that they can talk to and should also provide a safe place for them to stay as well, like a shelter in a way, where students can stay and live for awhile while they are learning and receiving the education they need for being a survivor out there in the world. I believe staff should consist of teachers who are survivors themselves and there should be different classes set up covering various topics that survivors and victims face and go through.
Every time I see Awareness pages, I often see pictures of the damage that abuse does to its victims. While it is important to show the world the damage abuse can do to innocent lives, shouldn't we be showing pictures of how strong survivors are as well? We need to show the world how strong survivors are so we can get rid of the stereotypes, judgmental remarks, and criticism that survivors are weak, fragile, broken and vulnerable, nothing more. It's time the world see that survivors of abuse are very beautiful, very strong individuals who are rising above in life. These schools for abuse survivors and victims should be free of charge and open to survivors and victims of all ages. With Schools For Abuse Survivors and Victims, we can give survivors and victims a chance to rebuild their lives as well as their self esteems. These schools can be a place for growing, healing, and creating stronger survivors, a place where all survivors of abuse and all victims of abuse are accepted, no matter what they have been through. A place to give them hope and faith in getting a new start in life as they pursue new goals and dreams, finding a better life than the one they left behind. It's time we give victims and survivors a chance in life and give them the help they so deserve!
