Wildlife Managment Kills Deer on our Dime!
Let's stop Wildlife Management from killing deer near our roads and highways. Make known that our tax dollars will not be used for this senseless, cruel operation. Tell them it is ineffective and pointless to kill deer who are trying to cross through their own natural habitat. Make humans take responsibility for their actions while driving.
We the undersigned have learned that the local Wildlife Management services here in the greater Lynchburg area hire people and pay a salary for them to sit on the side of roads and kill deer. This is outrageous! The tax payers of this community do not support this operation and will not tolerate any of our tax dollars used to commit senseless acts against animals. This method of keeping deer out of their own natural habitat where humans have chosen to carve roads through is ineffective, cruel, and unnecessary. There are more sensible ways in managing a problem that humans created. Animals should not have to suffer the consequences of our actions. (i.e. urban sprawl).
An actual position being created to kill animals as a way to control wildlife crossing over roads that they have every right to cross is ignorant. We are better than that. Drivers talking on the phone, speeding, and general carelessness are what cause 90% of these accidents. Hitting a deer in broad daylight suggests to me that the driver was not paying attention. Common sense says to drive slower through certain areas or certain times of year when more deer are mobile.
We should post "Deer Crossing" signs and lower speed limits in high traffic areas where deer run though. If we can have lower speed limits for school zones why not for animals? Tall fences could be used along highways with bridges for animals to cross over safely. There are so many more effective, useful, and humane things we can do.
Let%u2019s implement a plan that makes sense and use the money we pay people to kill the deer to actually save the animals and create a safer environment for everyone.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
