More Representation at Lincoln High School

Lincoln Petition

The students of Lincoln High School who have signed below want Lincoln to alter their curriculum to include the histories and experiences of all races, ethnicities, and cultures. We feel that the current curriculum does not have enough representation of and for students of color*. We believe that all students would benefit from learning about the perspectives of people of color and marginalized groups which are not traditionally taught within our school.

We have created a list of improvements that we believe Lincoln High School can implement to achieve this demand:

  • We would like future hires to include more teachers and staff of color.
  • Bring in speakers of color who can speak about their perspectives and experiences
  • Encourage the establishment of more clubs for specific races, ethnicities, and cultures.
  • Encourage and increase the discussions on current events in history and language arts so that it connects to the current curriculum.
  • Have dialogues in history and language arts classes where students can discuss current events and racial differences.
  • Increase the amount of books within the curriculum that have the main character as a POC.
  • Teaching on the issues of race and culture in the United States is necessary for all students to learn.
  • Tailor school projects and class discussions to be based on POC during heritage months.

We believe that these changes can and should be implemented starting fall of 2021. These changes will help enhance the students at Licnoln's education, tolerance, and acceptance of identities that differ from their own.
