Demand Amber Rudd Resign Over Windrush Failings

Around 50,000 "Windrush" generation Caribbean immigrants who were invited to the UK after the Second World War became victims of an intentionally hostile immigration policy. The Guardian documented the stories of victims who have lost their homes, lost their jobs, been refused benefits, and even denied NHS cancer care.

For six months, the Guardian newspaper has been alerting the Home Office to the horrific suffering of the Windrush generation and their children. It is only after sustained media exposure and pressure that the government have finally addressed the issue.

Home Secetary Amber Rudd played a key role in a cruel policy that required often unobtainable or destroyed evidence from people who have lived in the country for decades. In an attempt to save her career, Amber Rudd has finally offered a weak apology. But even now, she is refusing to accept responsibility - and promises of citizenship haven't yet assured the safety of all the victims.

Lives have been lost and others ruined by the Windrush travesty. Please sign this petition to demand that Amber Rudd resign for the huge amount of needless suffering she oversaw.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd:

In light of the extensive and heartbreaking suffering caused by the mistreatment of the Windrush generation, it is clear that you should stand down from your role as Home Secretary.

The persistent refusal to address the growing number of cases as they came to light cannot be undone with an apology. The cruel and punitive approach to a vulnerable group of citizens is unacceptable.
