Ciao - to some that means hi, to others goodbye, but to Miami Beach residents and visitors that should mean the Clean Indoor Air Ordinance. Miami Beach is a premier destination for travelers from all over the world looking to enjoy fun in the sun. Our visitors and residents however, end up having to cough up a lung, while frequenting some of the best nightlife establishments and public places in our beautiful city. And imagine the long term effects this will cause to employees in these establishments. We are a top notch city and should act like one. We must consider our health and well-being and say ciao to smoking in our enclosed places of employment.
Almost 30 states in the United States and many other countries have enacted legislation to ban smoking in enclosed places of employment....we think Miami Beach should be at the forefront and join this just cause.

Initiatives are in place to prohibit smoking in virtually all enclosed public places and enclosed places of employment, including but not necessarily limited to bars, restaurants, shopping malls, recreational facilities (including enclosed sports arenas, stadiums, swimming pools, ice and roller rinks, arcades and bowling alleys), concert halls, auditoriums, convention facilities, government buildings and vehicles, public transportation facilities, coin laundries, meeting rooms, private clubs, public restrooms, lobbies, reception areas, hallways and other common-use areas in public buildings, apartment buildings and condominium buildings;
The ordinance exempts private residences (except residences that are used as day care facilities or any other business to which the public is invited), some hotel and motel sleeping rooms, and retail tobacco stores.
Additionally, the law reminds owners and managers of buildings and other spaces not covered by the ordinance that they may declare their buildings and other spaces to be smoke-free; and it encourages them to do so.
