A Homophobic Uber Driver Humiliated This Couple. Ask Uber to Implement Anti-Discrimination Training.

According to Uber's nondiscrimination policy, the company prohibits discrimination "based on race, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, sex, marital status, gender identity, age or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal or state law."

But that doesn't mean that Uber drivers actually abide by the regulation.

Alex Iovine and her girlfriend Emma Pichl found that out the hard way when they took an Uber on their way to a friend's birthday party. The couple was sitting in the back seat and shared a quick kiss. Before they knew it, the driver had pulled over and told them to get out because kissing was "illegal."

June is pride month, and to celebrate it, Uber posted a message of solidarity. The tweet posted June 1st says they are "proud to stand with [the] LGBTQ+ community" but when this type of discrimination occurs in their name, it makes their words far less believable.

What happened to Alex and Emma is not only humiliating, it's wrong. But Alex believes that Uber can take one simple step to make sure something like this never happens again. Ms. Iovine would like Uber to require drivers to go through anti-discrimination training before they can start driving for the company.

Care2 supports Ms. Iovine in her fight to make Uber a more open and friendly platform for all and we would like you to do so too.

Please support Alex. Sign the petition and ask Uber to implement anti-discrimination training in their hiring process.
