Rain Forests are one of the most biodiverse eocosystems on the face of the planet. These beautiful forests that are teeming with life account for 20% of the known species of plants and animals found on Earth, many of which are endangered. 70% of all medicines used to fight cancer were derived from plants found in the Rain Forest, although only 1% of the plants found have been investigated for medical uses by scientists.
In the past, these diverse forests used to cover more than 14% of the world's land surface. Now less than half of that remains and is shrinking at an alarming pace. If the current consumption rate of the rain forest is not halted, the rain forest will only exist in memory in about 40 years.
Not only do Rain Forests account for 1/5th of all known species on earth, but they also produce 20% of the world's oxygen supply. In a world where the human population is booming, we cannot afford to lose one of the most fantastic and important resources we have.
