Tell lawmakers to protect South Carolina energy freedom!

  • van: Vote Solar
  • ontvanger: South Carolina State Legislators

Big utilities have already wasted billions of YOUR dollars on a failed nuclear plant, making South Carolina families and businesses pay the highest electricity bills in the nation. Those same utilities' high-paid lobbyists just pulled a fast one in the legislature to try keep it that way by killing a bipartisan bill that would have expanded opportunities for consumers to produce their own solar energy and save. Tell your legislator: We demand clean energy options to help lower our bills and support local jobs NOW!

The people of South Carolina should have the right to produce their own solar power if you so choose. And over the last few years, thousands of South Carolinians have done just that to save on their electricity bills, which has brought much-needed competition to the state's electric sector and put nearly 3,000 people to work in our new energy economy. Aiming to put South Carolina consumers first, leaders in the House of Representatives have been working clear the way for more families, businesses, churches, and schools to go solar with House Bill 4421: the Energy Consumer Bill of Rights Act.

H 4421 was approved with bipartisan majority votes twice in the House, but then the utilities devised a last-minute trick to kill this popular and important energy bill on a technicality. In doing so, the utility lobby has put consumer savings and thousands of South Carolina solar jobs at risk - all in the interest of propping up their own bloated monopoly business.

Now we have one last chance for the Senate and the House to right this wrong and keep solar shining for South Carolina. Tell your Senators to ACT NOW for solar energy freedom!

To whom it may concern:

I am a voter in your district, and I urge you to act quickly to expand rooftop solar opportunity and energy freedom in South Carolina.

Big utilities have already wasted billions of our dollars on a failed nuclear plant, making South Carolina families and businesses pay the highest electricity bills in the nation. Those same utilities just effectively killed a bipartisan bill - House Bill 4421, the Energy Consumer Bill of Rights Act - that would have expanded opportunities for consumers to produce their own solar energy and save. We need your leadership now to right this wrong and give more South Carolina families, businesses, schools and churches the opportunity to go solar and save.

Solar energy has brought our state lower utility bills, much-needed energy competition, and nearly 3,000 good jobs. If you don't act now to raise the cap on solar net metering all those jobs will be at risk, not to mention our ability to save money.

Please act now to protect consumers, create solar jobs, and limit utility overreach by lifting the solar caps.
