Improve Human Rights in Tibet

China will host the 2008 Olympics. The IOC should hold China accountable for using the Olympics platform to promote their own propaganda and for not keeping their promise to improve human rights in Tibet and in China.

Dear Mr. Rogge,

Even after an international uproar Beijing was still awarded the prestigious opportunity to host the 2008 Olympics. The IOC’s Olympic Truce commitment calls for "a window of opportunities for dialogue, reconciliation and the resolution of conflicts...and [encouraging] political leaders to act in favor of peace". These ideals should be applied to the issue of Tibet.

The IOC and the global community hoped that China would use this opportunity to improve its social status in the world by improving the human rights situation in Tibet and in China. However, China has not shown any indication of improving human rights in Tibet. China is misusing the Olympics platform to promote its own propaganda. By using the Tibetan antelope as one of its Olympic mascots, China is strengthening its claim over Tibet.

I am requesting that you hold China accountable for misusing the Olympics opportunity and not improving human rights situation in Tibet. I hope that the IOC will use this opportunity to help bring about a positive change in Tibet.

Sincerely Your's,
