Help Save Our Literacy and Math Coaches

Recently, the Pacifica School District applied for a federal appropriation through Congresswoman Jackie Speier's office to support our district's literacy and math coaches through a proposal entitled "Coaching for Equity and Excellence."  Congresswoman Speier's 12th District Citizens Oversight Panel, a distinguished group of local leaders, reviewed 59 proposals and recommended nine to move forward to the House Committee on Appropriations.  We are pleased to report that our district'sproposal was one of the nine selected.  However, we now need your help in supporting our request for $210,000.

Over the past 10 years, in accordance with No Child Left Behind, Pacifica has worked to ensure that all children are successful in their education.  We believe that quality instruction is directly tied to student learning.  Our work has succeeded in closing the achievement gap between our lowest performing school and our highest performing school.

Due to the recent, drastic state budget reductions and loss of grant funding sources, our coaching program is likely to be eliminated for 2009-10 school year.  It would be unfortunate to risk the gains that our district has made over the last decade, when $210,000 in federal funding would allow this program, one that is consistent with the goals of No Child Left Behind, to continue.  We ask that you do what you can to aid our request.  Thank you for your continued support.
