In Honor and Memorium of Howard Zinn, and all he has taught us; we the people demand that this textbook be required reading for EVERY PUBLIC MIDDLE SCHOOL in the United States.
We believe that it is important to excite the desire for knowledge of history early, before the children begin to lose faith in their country. Before the children begin to believe that there is no opportunity for them to participate in their government. Before the children become too obsessed with themselves because of mass media marketing.
I am going to start a facebook group, http://www.facebook.com/pages/REQUIRED-A-Peoples-History-of-the-United-States/274013863457?v=wall with the same title. I am asking for some of the gifted writers to create a petition, or request, or bill that can be submitted with these signatures. I ask that people comment on them until we can make a choice as to which one to send.
Let's not miss this opportunity!
NOTES: If you put this book in my 15 year olds hands it would be destroyed/left unread? --- I know that is why I suggest we aim for younger children.
In the facebook group I will leave passages from this man's book
"Lies My Teacher Told Me", by James W. Loewen. He reviews twelve textbooks and has fought the system in court to have his text included!!!
