ACTION ALERT- Cat Cafe cats need your help

HELP! ...the Mahogany Run Condo Association wants to kill cats!
UPDATE - OCTOBER 28, 2010: CONDO BOARD HAS REMOVED THEIR LITTLE CAFE AND CATS ARE DISORIENTED, SOME ARE MISSING. ACT FAST TO HELP SAVE THEM

824 feral cats were euthanized in 2007 when brought to the Humane Society by well-meaning individuals. The Cat Cafe started in late 2007 by the St. Thomas Humane Society to address this problem. Delia Holodenschi, creator and operator of the Cat Cafe says, since inception: 1,050 feral cats have been trapped, neutered and released into colonies, 80 kittens have spayed, neutered and adopted into loving homes rather than breeding and continuing the vicious cycle of reproduction.

St. Thomas is a tourist destination, many visitors are distressed about hungry cats crying and begging for food, some sick or diseased. The CAT CAFE ends the cycle by TNR to be fed and supported by volunteers. On island resorts who support this program are: Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, Marriott Frenchman's Reef, Wyndham Sugar Bay, The Ritz Carlton. We are grateful that they have embraced a humane way of dealing with a critical problem.

Now...the Mahogany Run Condo Association has removed the Cat Cafe and wants to trap the cats sending them to certain death, starting the vicious cycle again by eliminating the very program which keeps the population from reproducing and having emaciated, sick and dying cats and kittens on the property.

Working together we can solve the epidemic of overpopulation.

Tell the Mahogany Run Condo Association to reinstate the program, and this time support it wholeheartedly. .

We ask that you TAKE Action:

We the undersigned:

Since 2008 the Mahogany Run Condo Association  has supported the CatCafe Program which is an official program of the Humane Society of St. Thomas.

Since then, the citizens of St. Thomas as a whole have benefited from your cooperation in helping control & manage the feral cat population of the island and the Mahogany Run area.  Statistically-speaking, the feral cat population in your area has diminished as a direct result of the presence of the CatCafe Program at Mahogany Run. No more are pregnant emaciated cats and sick kittens see on the property.

We recently learned that your association has removed the CatCafe feeding station and no longer wishes to participate. We also know that the fate of trapping the cats and disposing of them will result in their being euthanized (killed) and we do not want this to happen.

As supporters of the Cat Cafe program in St. Thomas, we believe in the viable concept of trap, neuter, and release, which is the only humane way to deal with feral cat populations.

We ask for your association to reconsider this decision.

We respectfully request that you continue participation and cooperation with the CatCafe Program, and thank you for taking the time to consider our request.
