We the undersigned ask Susan G. Komen for the cure, Karen Handel, VP of Public Policy, and Nancy Brinker, Komen CEO to reinstate funding to Planned Parenthood.
The Susan G. Komen organization has provided 30 years of real help to low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women for breast screening, education, and treatment programs. For more than 90 years, Planned Parenthood has worked to improve women's health and safety. They have made it possible for nearly 170,000 women to obtain low-cost clinical breast exams while providing more health services than any organization in the country such as mammogram referrals, all supported by Komen grants.
The partnership built up between these two organizations over the last few years has always garnered criticism from pro-life and anti-abortion advocates yet has always managed to help millions of women from various backgrounds obtain health care services like early detection and prevention from safe affordable Planned Parenthood doctors and facilities.
Women's health care should NOT be a political football.
Sadly, these new policies seem to be driven by a political partisan agenda. Reports are that Representative Cliff Sterns, politically motivated decided to launch an investigation that could unfortunately undermine all aspects and access for affordable health care to low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women. It is also important to know that both Nancy Brinker and Karen Handel have strong long term conservative associations. Nancy Brinker, Komen CEO and longtime GOP donor has strong Republican ties, served as ambassador to Hungary under Bush Administration. Karen Handel, Vice President of public policy at Komen ran an unsuccessful campaign for governor of Georgia, stated during her campaign that," I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood" and promised to eliminate funding for breast and cervical cancer screenings provided by Planned Parenthood.
We ask the new Susan G. Komen for the cure, Nancy Brinker, CEO and Karen Handel, VP to put Women's health care and access ahead of politically driven, conservative religious, anti-abortion groups.
