Keep Fine Arts in Schools
Multiple studies have shown that children who are involved in at least one form of fine arts have better grades. Kids in fine arts have longer attention spans and have more appreciation for hard work and concentration. Many schools are not seeing the importance of these classes and sadly cutting them when the funding is coming up short (even though as most of us have seen they keep the funding for fancy sports gear). Most college either require or highly recommend that applicants have some sort of fine arts class for admission. How fair is it, if that child didn't have the opportunity to take a class? Most of my elective classes were fine arts classes. Those were the classes that got me out of bed in the morning and go to school. Had I not joined the Army, I would have gone to a fine arts college to pursue a career in the arts. I have a child now and we incorporate fine arts into everyday life. We sing and use visuals to help her learn. She is learning to draw and I can see the wheels turning in her mind and I know that all these things will help her excel in school. Shouldn't all kids be given a chance to excel?
We the undersigned believe that it is in the best interests of the youth of Virginia to keep all fine arts in school and to improve upon the ones that are falling behind.
Fine arts helps kids to learn discipline, focus and that leads them to better grades. Better grades keeps kid wanting to come to school and by coming to school they can then graduate. With fine arts, everybody is a winner and by working with us to keep fine arts in school and make the ones that are falling behind better, we can improve the lives of residents of our great state.
Wouldn't that be a wonderful feeling? I hope that you take into consideration our petition and push for more/better fine arts programs in school.
