No Rights, No Women

"No Rights No Women"

For years, women (and men) in Lebanon have campaigned and fought for women s full citizen rights. And yet, Lebanese women in year 2011 are still discriminated against in the Nationality Law, the Personal Status Law, the Penal Law, and the Labor and Social Security laws.

Sign the petition to be submitted to the Lebanese Parliament asking for the full implementation of Article 7 of the constitution, which establishes equality in the rights and duties of all citizens which thereby requires:

1. The full right of Lebanese women to grant their nationality to their families by amending the articles deemed discriminatory against women in the law relating to the Lebanese nationality namely, Article 1 of Decree No. 15 of January 19, 1925.
2. Passing a Law that protects individuals from domestic violence and spousal rape.
3. Enacting a unified Civil Code for the Personal Status Law for the 18 confessions which grants women equal rights in marriage, divorce, child custody, and inheritance.
4. The total repeal of Article 562 of the penal law, which offers reduced sentences to male perpetrators of "honor crimes".
5. The amendment of Article 522 on rape provisions.
6. The amendment of Article 26 (decree 47) for equality in the retirement law, Article 3 (decree 3950) for equality in the family pension.
7. The amendment of Article 15 (decree 5883) for a fair maternity leave meeting the 14-week minimum period established by the International Labor Law.
8. Lifting the reservation on Article 16 of the CEDAW, Convention of the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women
