Save Employee Motivation

The incentive industry is under attack. You can help protect the thousands of incentive industry-related jobs in America by taking action today. Tell your elected officials and the media that anti-incentive rhetoric is leading to the displacement of thousands of American workers.

Encourage them to look beyond the politics, to support performance incentives because it is good business and can help recover and grow the economy. It creates jobs, generates tax revenue and sustains communities around the country.

Dear Honorable Members of Congress:

We the undersigned are writing you to ask for your support in defending an industry that provides good jobs and livelihoods in our community.

In recent weeks, the incentive industry has come under widespread attack in the media and in congress from people who are quite reasonably outraged by the greed and malfeasance displayed by the top executives of some companies. But their anger has been misdirected at an industry that provides many well-run businesses with a means of recognizing excellence and motivating the millions of Americans who create and sell the products and services that drive our economy.

According to a recent study by the Incentive Federation, American companies spend more than $46 billion a year on employee motivation programs. Their stockholders get that investment back many times over in the form of higher sales and more efficient operations. These programs range from travel awards to motivate top salespeople, to merchandise awards to recognize achievement among rank and file workers, to instant win gift cards to influence consumer purchasing. The delivery of these awards help to sustain jobs that support armies of families in our local area and contribute to the tax receipts at the federal, state, and local level.

When any type of incentive program is misrepresented in the press as a boondoggle, the truth about these activities is obscured%u2014incentive awards are paid for out of the incremental revenue generated by the programs. As such, they cost the host organizations nothing.

At a time when businesses in every industry in every state are struggling to stay afloat in a climate of gloom and panic, businesses need tools that will get their employees selling and customers buying more than ever. The incentive industry has been providing those tools for more than a century. Please help us ensure that those tools aren%u2019t blunted by legislation written in haste and in anger. The real victims of such legislation will be the workers of this country, not the CEOs.
