Overview: Due to campus wide budget cuts, the ESM coordinator position, currently held by Teri McKenzie, is slated to be cut. Recognizing the value this position has brought to the department in less than a year, we would like to voice our concern and advocate for its retention.
Value of position to the department:
1. Building community - Welcomes incoming students
- Plans social and informational events for students and faculty
2. Communication -Provides critical information regarding program requirements, facilitating timely student graduation,
-Posts jobs and research opportunities,
-Advises undergraduate students
3. Outreach -Organized first ever alumni event and department newsletter
-Personal connections with students, possibly increasing retention
In this position, Teri manages an infinite number of details that help the department operate smoothly. Retaining this position is critical to the integrity of the department. Please investigate other solutions to resolving the budget cuts.
