The Ohrid Lake is located in the South-Western part of Macedonia,in the Ohrid-Struga valley.It is exceptionally beautiful,rich in endemic fauna &flora,result of its 5 million years of existence.It is a real treasure we are blessed with and until recent past it was protected of the greedy human human kind by strict laws.
Unfortunately it is not the case at present.Present authorities have granted concession of the coastal area (fringed with reeds,habitat to many kinds of lake birds and other fauna &flora many of which are already endangered species) to individual businesses.They brought tractors and other machinery and started plaughing the reeds and turning it into building sites and tourist facilities.Already being wounded by the transition of the sociaty,and disturbed by present destructive activities its future is predictable.And with it our future as well.
Lake Ohrid was declared a World Heritage site by
UNESCO in 1979.We urge nature lovers to help us save this beautiful lake by signing this petition.Thank you!
