'No killing' is one of the basic teachings of Lord Buddha incorporated in the Panchasil (Five Virtues). In other words, it means no violence or no to eating meat of any sentient beings.
But it is found that meat products are consumed at many international monasteries built in the Lumbini master plan area where Lord Buddha was born, against the principle of panchasil preached by the Lord Buddha himself. Of total 40-45 international monasteries built here by various countries and Buddhist organisations, majority of the monasteries serve meat in their meal, against the rules set by the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT), according to Mr. Ajitman Tamang, the member secretary of theTrust.
It poses a threat to tarnish the image and importance of the Lumbini, one of the sacred places in the world for Buddhist adhering to the principle of ahimsa (non-violence).
Hence, the need to strictly enforce the rules and regulations of the LDT and further restore Lumbini as a 'no-meat and peace zone'.
