Red Sox Players Should Take a Stand for Puerto Rico and Boycott the White House Visit

The Red Sox are World Champions and now they are faced with the decision on how to celebrate their win. I'm asking the Red Sox to take a stand for Puerto Rico and choose not to celebrate by visiting The White House.

The team's manager Alex Cora was born in Puerto Rico and has been outspoken in his response to Trump's response to Hurricane Maria and the devastation it caused to Puerto Rico. Cora called Turmp's comments "disrespectful" after the commander-in-chief said the disaster resulted in "6 to 18 deaths" when the fact is the death toll was closer to 3,000. And when asked if the team would visit The White House following their win, Cora did not respond.

The Red Sox have the opportunity to not only show respect to their manager but also take a stand for the people of Puerto Rico by showing solidarity. Instead of boarding a flight to pay homage to Trump in Washington D.C. the team should send their plane packed with supplies to Puerto Rico.

The Red Sox have the opportunity to be the first team in baseball to take a stand and turn down a White House invitation and make the celebration of their win about more than just a photo op but an opportunity to draw attention the ongoing relief we should be providing to the island of Puerto Rico.

Please sign my petition asking the Red Sox to refuse an invite to The White House and instead take a stand for the people of Puerto Rico.
