#LafayetteShooting: Demand Republican Presidential Candidates Refuse or Return NRA Donations

On Thursday night a gunman from Alabama opened fire at a movie theatre in Lafayette, LA killing three people and injuring nine others. We as a nation have become hopelessly accustomed to these occurrences, and yet the Republican Presidential candidates continue to use dangerous NRA-fueled rhetoric that ignores the facts about gun violence in America.

Presidential Candidates Bobby Jindal and Donald Trump have both released vague statements calling for prayers for the families. Jindal then said that "now is not the time" to talk about gun laws. All this despite the fact that Louisiana and Alabama have some of the weakest gun laws in the country. Now is absolutely the time to talk about gun laws, Mr. Jindal. If you won't, we will.

The National Rifle Association, headed by Wayne LaPierre, responds to each tragedy the same as the last -- by saying that if more people had guns, there would be more "good guys" to step in. But studies across the board show that the more guns circulate in our society, the more in danger we all are. The NRA spends millions of dollars to influence our presidential elections - and those candidates in turn parrot the rhetoric of the NRA, and ignore calls from the public for common sense gun laws. It's time we held them all accountable.

Sign the petition today demanding that Republican presidential candidates show that they are serious about preventing gun violence, and reject or return any donations from the NRA.
