We the undersigned request that the Putnam County School Board initiate a project to build a performing arts auditorium at Hurricane High School. For decades, show choirs, bands, choirs and drama teams have had to:
• Perform in a gymnasium or the commons area with poor acoustics, inadequate lighting, and cumbersome staging for plays and props
• Rent stages, sound equipment and lighting for events such as show choir competitions
• Transport musical equipment, risers, and props to auditoriums outside the county, in order to use facilities appropriate for musical performances. This potentially damages equipment.
• Perform in churches with limited seating and oft-times inadequate audio and acoustics
• Conduct classes in cramped facilities that are not equipped to support the performing arts
An auditoriums for Hurricane High School would provide an appropriate performance venue that would facilitate the teaching process and enhance the students’ learning experience. An auditorium could potentially be used for events such as graduations, assemblies, recitals, conferences, and rentals for other occasions. The time to provide Hurricane High School with an auditoriums is now.
