We Must Protect Our Children
We are trying to change current laws in Michigan. As it stands, the current law for criminal sexual conduct on a child under the age of thirteen is zero to seventeen months in county jail when the molester confesses.
Mazy was molested her mothers boyfriend, he was only sentenced to eight months in the local county jail, of those eight months, he served four months and 2 days he was let out early for "good behavior".
The current law for child abuse and neglect varies, though none of it seems to fit the crime. If you murder a child from abuse, you can get no less than eight years, no more than twelve. For serious bodily injury, you can get no less than four and no more than eight years in JAIL. For any other injury it's six to eighteen months.
Another local man, Amos Kline, admitted twisting his six week old son Dominicks' arm and leg until they broke. Because he admitted his guilt, and took anger management classes, the man will only serve NINE MONTHS, and not even in the local county jail, he is at a probation center.
Calista Springer died in a house fire last year because her parents tied her to a bed and dead bolted her into her room. She cried out for help and no one would listen. DCFS workers looked the other way when she begged them to help her. How can this be.
How can we say these children were given justice
We are not asking for anything unreasonable. All we are asking for is a two year MINUMIM sentence in Prison, not jail. No Parole in cases with this sentence.
We are also asking for a National Child Abuse Registry. You have to register if you molest or rape a child, why not when you beat one. These children should never have to return to the person that harmed them, and a registry would make that happen.
We would like to see the registry pass easily. Dominick Kline deserves that much after what he went through with his father as such an early age. He deserves the right not to have to ever be in that mans care again.
We The Undersigned have had enough with abusers recieving light sentences because they confess. These laws must change for the sake of our children. We need your help, and every one of you count.
