To the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association:
I was greatly saddened to learn that many orcas are starving to death. Research is pointing to the noise produced by passing ships. The noise disorients the orcas and interferes with the sonar they use to locate their food. It appears that there is available technology that would save lives, however. Military ships manage to cut through the waters making very little noise. Such technology, if it were shared with the aquatic business vessels, could prevent extinction of this majestic whale.
Please require vessels traveling through orca territory to go at slower speeds and please also require commercial fishing vessels to employ the same sound buffering technology that the military uses.
