Tell Victoria Council to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides!
Horse drawn carriage rides exploit horses for entertainment, yet they remain a popular tourist draw in Victoria, BC.
The Victoria Horse Alliance cited over 20 collisions between carriages and cars over the past 20 years. The group also filed two complaints with the SPCA over poor hoof care that causes horses pain long-term. Other concerns include poor equipment maintenance and metal bits that harm horses' mouths.
Toronto, London and Beijing have already banned horse-drawn carriage rides. It is time for Victoria to follow suit. Knowing what we now know about animal welfare, there is no excuse to continue exploiting horses for the sake of tradition.
