No to Greg Floyd's Compassionate Release

Please, no. This cannot, and shall not pass. Why is this even a thought? This was my mother's friend's child and significant other. They were harmless, minding their business, and completely blindsided by this senseless man while having a night out in the city together.

I started this petition because the rage I felt burning inside of me just by reading the article's title and then the rise of my adrenaline as I actually read the article. When I read the article, it brought me back to the moment when my mom was telling me this exact story in tears before I headed out the door for my night out in the city. I was also emotionally impacted. I had last minute thoughts if I should still go out or not. Anything can happen anywhere at anytime, which is why I chose not to live in fear, but to think of how it impacted their friends, family and community is truly heartbreaking to me. Not one life, but two lives were taken without any empathy that night. Not one family, but two families have been grieving over this horrific murder for 20 years.

The prison warden sent Jason's family a request, which they received on Friday, for any objections to be notified, in writing, by the following Tuesday (Today, May 26, 2020). I can't speak for everyone, but my mail has been delayed and lost more often now than ever, but Jason's family FedExed their objection letter on Saturday morning hoping it gets to the warden by Tuesday (today).

There was no compassion in 2000 when Jason and Amy were begging Greg to spare their lives and there is no room for it in 2020. I am begging you to sign this petition against his wishes and share it, please.

"In June of 2000, a young couple was carjacked in Providence and driven to a golf course in Johnston, Rhode Island. There, 20-year-old Jason Burgeson and Amy Shute were blindfolded and told to turn over their cash. Between them, they had $18. Moments later, they were shot and killed by Greg Floyd...

...he has petitioned for compassionate release, possibly because of COVID-19.

...Even if her letter gets to the warden by Tuesday, it's unclear what impact it may have."
