Hello Fellow Concerned Parents:
I'm sure many of you have already heard that our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Bento, and all Highline employees who have less than a full-time contract are going to be RIFfed (reduction in force) along with all 1st and 2nd year teachers within the Highline School District. It%u2019s "somewhat" likely that some may get their contracts back eventually, however, it might be a random / grab-bag contract at any number of schools. Lori has been teaching at Marvista for 21 years! Unfortunately, her 18.5 years of seniority (due to half time) only counts among other .5 contracts. Other teachers like Mr. Stults, our General Music / Arts Block teacher, is a .9 and will also be RIFfed.
The public and Highline staff are invited to give input at community budget forums, and the next one will be:
- Monday, April 27, 6:00-8:00 p.m. - Evergreen High School campus
Please take the opportunity to come out and voice your support of our teachers! Childcare will be provided for children ages 3-12. No children in diapers, please.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens and parents who urge our school leaders to act now to retain Lori Bento at Marvista Elementary as a half-day or full-day Kindergarten Teacher. We believe the structure, guidance and nurturing she gives to kindergarten students enables them to be successful in future classes. Our school will not be the same without her foundational instruction.
