Save Sumatran Elephants

Indonesia has anti-poaching laws which are supposed to protect Sumatra's critically endangered elephants. So why is it that, over the past decade, 129 Sumatran elephants were killed or poisoned?

Elephants in Sumatra have already been hard struck by logging and habitat loss. Now farmers are using poisoned fruit to kill them. Rings of poachers are still at large and ruthlessly killing elephants just for their ivory tusks. The World Wildlife Federation of Indonesia predicts the Sumatran elephant could go extinct in just thirty years. The solution is to hire more rangers to protect the elephants within their range and to create incentives for farmers to protect their elephant neighbors. Tell The People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia to crack down on elephant murder!

We the undersigned are outraged at the continued assault on Sumatran elephants.

Reports from the World Wildlife Federation of Indonesia indicate that 129 elephants have been poached or poisoned in the past decade. It is your responsibility to protect your elephants. The Sumatran elephant is already critically endangered from loss of habitat.

Please crack down on these killings. The solution is to hire more rangers to police elephant habitat.
