Petition to change new ordinance 18-21
that now reads as follows.
That Section 6-2-1-(A)(5) Any vehicle stopped, standing or parked on any city street from one
679, 12-3-1991) be deleted and replaced by (5) No person shall park or leave a vehicle on
any city street when it is snowing or snow is on the street.
Understanding the plight of the snow plows and their difficulty in keeping our city streets clear of snow can be frustrating. It make their job more difficult and in a perfect world the new ordinance would make sense.
BUT WE DON'T LIVE IN A PERFECT WORLD !!!!!
The old ordinance was sufficient for when the snow plows where working in the night time hours. But in the day time people are busy going about their business which sometimes causes parking on the city streets.
This Christmas season when many family parties are taking place, there will be parking on the streets in front of the homes being visited. And the way the ordinance is written if it begins to snow or snowing they can't park by the home for visiting unless we all build our own parking lots to be off the city streets. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE ???
I would hope you might revisit this ordinance and put some common sense into it. If an Officer has time to sit and write a ticket for this ordinance, do they not have time to perhaps check out why they are parked there? If they come upon a home where there might be two or three cars parked in front of the home and looks like a party could be going on. Is he still going take the time to write all those tickets. OR CAN THEY USE COMMON SENSE. Your ordinance says they must take the time to write all those tickets. DOES THIS REALLY MAKE SENSE?
Cant we give our trusted Officers some discretion on this ordinance. Or can the city give these vehicles some time on the street, or can they check with the city to see where the snow plows might be or coming through the street of the parked cars. Better yet if a snow plow has to go around the cars then maybe give them a ticket. It is obvious when a snow plow has to go around the cars.
There has to be a better solution than the one they have changed to.
