Help Save the Trees in Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver

Please help save 70 mature and magnificent trees from the axe in Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver. The Vancouver Park Board wants to cut these trees down for a better view of downtown and the North Shore Mountains.

With global warming we need all the mature trees we have. We have already recently lost thousands of trees in BC due to the recent construction boom. Mature trees can absorb up to 2900 litres of rainfall yearly, and they greatly reduce greenhouse effects as a tree can clean up to 150 kilograms of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Trees can also absorb 4.5 kilograms of pollutants years. Mature trees produce 118 kilograms of oxygen yearly also.

Replacing mature trees with small young trees does not work. It would take years for these trees to have the same effect on our atmosphere. The air Vancouverites breath takes more precidence over a view. In today's age we have our priorities, number one being to reduce greenhouse gases. Let the park board, Vancouver Mayor and

Gordon Campbell know that these trees are important.

Didn't Gordon Campbell just introduce the carbon tax to make British Columbians responsible for their contribution to our environment. Now it is the government's responsibility to do the same, so let them know that saving these trees must be their priority.
