Useless mandatory attendance

The LAUSD district has made school mandatory during the teacher strike. The goal of the district is to have students participate in educational activities. However, this is not the case school are heavily out staffed and students are gathered in auditoriums with no educational material. I understand that students may depend on the school for protection, food and help but, mandatory attendance is unnecessary.
