Ask the City of Toronto to protect woodlots

Please ensure that any projects approved by the city make preserving mature and healthy trees a priority. Mature trees are essential to the health of our city and the planet.

While there currently is a Ravine Protection bylaw, there should also be a zoning definition for woodlots and wetlands.

Currently, when one homeowner tree is to be cut, a photo of the tree is part of the document. Please add photos of all the trees slated to be cut in development proposals as well.

Please add all tree cutting proposals for development projects to social media, with the headline Developer Tree Cutting Proposal, and photos of the trees on the lot. The current online reports are tedious, have no tree photos, and are hard to read, or even find.

Please create a bylaw capping or limiting the number of healthy trees that can be removed at any one location. Planting new trees is important, but does not quickly replace mature trees.

The "3 to 1" tree replacement rule does not restore paved land. They do not mature quickly enough to fulfill the same functions that are lost. These "replacements" are usually monoculture.

Development that destroys woodlots should be illegal. Any heavily treed lot should automatically be rezoned as parkland.
