Tell Congress to Act NOW to Establish guardrails for AI
Artificial intelligence has generated enormous excitement, and that's understandable, given its potential to fundamentally transform medicine, science, education, business and countless other parts of our lives.
But powerful new technologies need reasonable rules. And some of the people developing and studying the most advanced AI systems have been sounding increasingly urgent warnings about the risks.
With AI moving at warp speed, Congress needs to catch up quickly and take action. Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have proposed steps for addressing the risks while allowing AI innovation to continue.
Congress should establish common-sense safeguards that protect consumers and children, combat AI fraud and deceptive deepfakes, require appropriate safety testing and transparency, and hold companies accountable when things go wrong.
That doesn't mean halting innovation. It means establishing sensible rules of the road while this technology is still developing.
But that means moving NOW to make this happen. AI is moving incredibly quickly. We shouldn't wait for a catastrophe before deciding that maybe some guardrails would have been a good idea.
