Stand Against Animal Testing in the UK!

When the Coalition Government took office in 2010, it pledged to "work to reduce the use of animals in scientific research." Sadly, this promise has been forgotten as last year's figures reveal an 8% rise in UK animal experimentation, including a 22% increase in monkey experiments.

Most of the increase was due to genetically modified (GM) animals, who were specifically designed to suffer painful defects. Meanwhile, government spending for alternatives to animal testing is inadequate, with only 66 pence ($1.01) spent for each animal used in UK laboratories.

Monkeys, dogs, rabbits, sheep and other animals continue to suffer for research. Tell the UK to stand by their promise to phase out animal testing in favor of cruelty-free alternatives!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with the increased use of animal experimentation in the UK, despite a 2010 promise to "work to reduce the use of animals in scientific research." As you may know, last year's figures reveal an 8% rise in UK animal experimentation, including a 22% increase in monkey experiments.

We believe government spending for alternatives to animal testing is inadequate, with only 66P spent for each animal used in UK laboratories.

Monkeys, dogs, rabbits, sheep and other animals continue to suffer for research while cruelty-free technology exists and is equally if not more accurate. We respectfully urge you to stand by your 2010 promise and work to reduce animal testing in the UK. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
