Don't Go Numb: Demand Action on Gun Violence

In the wake of the most recent mass shootings in Roseberg, Oregon, President Obama called on the nation and congress to take action and encourage our state representatives to finally do something to prevent the trend of mass shootings.

He listed all the shootings that have taken place in recent months and years including the shootings in Connecticut, Louisiana, and Charleston, just to name a few. As the President spoke, the sadness, anger and disgust was present in his voice and on his face. He rightfully stated that our nation has become "numb to routine mass shootings."

This is not acceptable. In the coming weeks there will be an outpouring of people offering their "thoughts and prayers." While polite, these words are not going to change this deadly trend. We have to stand up and get loud as a nation and ask our individual representatives the following question:

What specifically are you doing as my elected representative in Washington to reduce gun violence and mass shootings?"

Anti-gun control advocates will try and make the argument that if we take guns away from people, the only ones who will have them are criminals. They will reference the 2nd Amendment and the words "the right to bear arms."

But the President isn't asking to take guns away from law abiding citizens. He is simply asking for a common sense approach to evaluate the problem and create legislation to prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands.
