The borderline slanderous petition recently gaining traction that seeks to remove Matt Damon from Oceans 8 completely lacks integrity.
The petition relies heavily on guilt by association, a tactic well known for being a fallacy that proves nothing about an individual's character or moral status. The section that reads "But that was before allegations that Matt Damon — who has a well-publicized cameo in Oceans 8 — not only ignored but enabled his friend Harvey Weinstein's inappropriate behavior by trying to squash a New York Times report in 2004 that detailed instances where Weinstein had used his position as a high-powered studio executive to harass and even assault women." acts as though the accusation of one woman(of which Damon denies) is unquestionable, objective reality on top of its use of guilt by association.
The petition goes on to cite Damon, saying that he would evaluate opportunities to work with other actors on a "case by case basis"; the petition calls this "beyond enabling" and "gross". This is clearly an unreasonable attempt to attack Damon's character.
Slander like this should not be allowed to go uncritisized nor should Care2 support this libelous petition by allowing them space on the Care2 platforms.
