'Light Up' the Crosswalk on Main Street at Union Street

Pam Cohen was struck and killed by a car while walking INSIDE the Main St. @ Union St. crosswalk in Brockton, MA on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017. This crosswalk is heavily used, poorly lighted and is unsafe for pedestrians, particularly at night.

We ask that the city of Brockton install a lighted crosswalk system with flashing LED lights that are embedded into the asphalt and flashing LED signs with push buttons for pedestrians to use for better safety when crossing this busy street.

This street has heavy car traffic and pedestrians need a safer solution that alerts motorists and is visible up to 400 feet away. Children and the elderly are partiicularly vulnerable crossing this busy street. If this crosswalk had a lighted crosswalk system, Pam might be alive today. The accident involving Pam being hit by a vehicle is only one of several that have recently occurred in Brockton.

Brockton Traffic Commission, please install a LightGuard Systems Smart Crosswalk with flashing in-roadway lights and push buttons at Main St. & Union Street, and also consider lighted crosswalk systems at other dangerous crosswalks throughout the city.
