Protect our forever homes and communities’ safety

Threatening the well being and safety in Saint John’s Bay, is a careless and thoughtless proposal to stuff 13 boat slips to add revenue and commerce for the benefit of Delafield. Branching from the existing park, the boat slips would protrude into unwelcomed areas of paddle boarders, long term residents, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Encouraging round the clock visits, these 13 slips are calling for off lake resident boozers to tie up and liqueur up in town before returning to their vehicles to drive home. Under patrolled, this lake could become a drunk’s lake haven. A somber wake-up call is needed in Delafield. Off lake boaters frequent Nagawicka often cruising through no wake zones oblivious to safety expectations. Ask Jill Ladwig who perished in her boat run over by Anthony Drewes - a non-lake resident under the influence on lake Nagawicka (2017). Dig further, 1967 a pier existed from this very spot and a drunk boater crashed into an 86 foot pier at 12:30 am killing his friend - fined $50 - fair price? Let’s think with our minds first rather than our wallets. Revenue can be gained if we think rationally and beyond a single presentation slide. Also worth mentioning, 13 boat slips in one’s backyard is not comparable to our mayor’s neighboring lot with lake weeds. First, you chose that for you and your family. I did not choose this for my 3 1/2 and 2 year old. Proposal: use existing space to the north and allow boater to park with boats. I walk into town, why can’t they? Or am I faced to leave my forever home?
