Petition to Retain Mark Gregory as Chairman of the Williamson County School Board

We, the voters, parents and citizens of Williamson County, hereby petition Mark Gregory to remain in his newly elected position as Chairman of the Williamson County School Board.

Mr. Gregory was duly elected as Chairman by the majority of the Board. He has a stellar 10-year record of service as a Board member, and he has served our school district with transparency and honor.

We must not allow the electoral process to be hijacked by disgruntled individuals who refuse to abide by the Code of Ethics established by the School Board, which include:

  • “I will respect the opinion of other members and accept the principle of ‘majority rule.’” (Article IV, Section 4)

  • “I will avoid being placed in a position of conflict of interest.” (Article VI, Section 2)

  • “I will refrain from using my position on the Board for personal or partisan gain.” (Article VI, Section 3)

As representatives and role models, it is essential that Board members be respectful of the election process, respectful to each other and submissive to the will of the majority.

Furthermore, we urge the School Board to reject the malicious personal attacks that tarnished the August elections and now are continuing against Mr. Gregory. Such attacks are detrimental to the best interests of our Board and our school system. They create dissension and division, and set a poor example for our students, teachers and the community at large.

We call on Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney and each Board member to pledge to publicly repudiate those who engage in such destructive behavior. We further call on them to demonstrate unity in moving our school district forward under Mr. Gregory’s leadership.
