Congolese migrants in Angola are being raped and abused by Angolan security forces. According to Human Rights Watch, these migrants are being rounded up and put into detention centers where they are being raped in front of their children. If these women do not comply with the security forces’ demands, they are beaten, tortured and not given food or water. To make matters worse, the Angolan government knows this is occurring and refuses to do anything to stop it. Instead, they deny it is even happening. Victims have told Human Rights Watch that their abusers are not just security forces, but they are also immigrant officials, police officers and members of the military. This abuse has been happening for years and the Angolan government has turned a blind eye to these victims.
Tell the Angolan government that this outrageous abuse of Congolese migrants must end immediately and that these perpetrators must be brought to justice.
We the undersigned, adamantly ask the government of Angola to intervene on the horrid abuse that Congolese migrants are being subjected to by Angolan security forces. While Angola does not have to allow these migrants to stay in Angola, they do have to respect that these migrants are human beings and have rights. The rape and sexual abuse must stop and Angolan security forces must be brought under control. The government must not continue to deny that this abuse is happening; the number of victims that have come forward is too great for it to not be true.
