Please stop using the term "pit bull" in stories, petitions, and articles. This designator in the media is very generic and is primarily used as a method of terrorizing people. This designation has caused a lot of very nice, beautiful family pets to be abandoned or euthanized all because they are taggeed as "pit bull."
"Pit bulls" do not deserve this negative focus, whether or not the dog is truly a pit bull. Sometimes it is fairly easy to identify dogs that really are pit bulls. But much of the time, any dog with a largish head is tagged as a pit bull. With sometimes tragic results for the breed because any dog that is involved in an altercation identified as a pit bull hurts the reputation and causes more hate and fear.

Start reading about breed specific legislation and how it has damaged the reputation of this breed. Read about how other breeds have been demonized in the past and how this is just the turn for another undrserving class of dogs, based solely on their appearance. Look up "pit bull" at the shelters and look at the diversity of dogs that are labeled as "pit bull" and because of that, have very little chance of finding a home if they even survive past the initial assessment (because a lot of pit bulls are euthanized almost immediately).
Please do not believe the hype and please do not participate in perpetuating the myths and stereotypes. Ths is a very charged issue that the media has used to whip people into a frenzy. Don't let your emotions guide you decisions and continue to use the term "pit bull" to be used generically and to be used as a scare tactic. We as a community can be a catalyst to this change.
