Make raccoons legal as pets in California

Hi my names Binyam and I’m currently a high school student and I have this raccoon that has been constantly sleeping in my backyard for about a month now and he seems to have no home and I have took him in as if he’s one of my own and he has been nothing but kind to me, he shows high signs of obedience and it breaks my heart that what I’m doing is illegal to the state of California and it is just wrong.
