SAVE BIRDS AND BATS FROM WIND TURBINES

The current design of wind turbines is responsible for the countless deaths of birds and bats every year. Millions perish by attempting to fly through the blades, which appear to be moving slowly, but in reality are spinning at speeds of hundreds of miles per hour. The force of being struck by these blades catapults their often mutilated bodies an average distance of 372 feet.

Birds documented being killed by the blades include Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Red-Tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, Burrowing Owls, Mallards, Horned Larks and Western Meadowlarks, among others.

The current method of reporting bird and bat mortalities conceals the fact that up to 39 million deaths occur each year, and mortally wounded birds are not counted among the casualties...even though they will die within days. No other energy source fatalities even approach the high death rate of raptors that wind energy does. The search area for victims of turbine strikes is deliberately limited to allow for deceptive reporting to the American public.

There is technology for safer designs available at competitive cost. We need to implement the use of these safer models to preserve our wildlife for future generations. We are asking for the current wind turbine versions to be replaced with concealed blade models.
