Pet Flea Treatments Are Poisoning Songbirds. We Can Change This.

Scientists have found that nearly every tested songbird feather contains toxic chemicals from pet flea treatments. These chemicals – including pesticides banned in agriculture – are now showing up in wild birds across the United Kingdom.

Even more concerning, some of them are known to damage the brain, disrupt reproduction, and harm developing baby birds.

Sign the petition to demand Defra implement urgent reforms to the regulation of veterinary medicines and protect vulnerable wildlife.

A new study found pesticide contamination in 100% of bird samples tested, with some chemicals linked to neurological damage and reduced survival in young birds.

These substances are commonly used in flea and tick treatments for pets and can spread into the environment through water, soil, and direct contact.

Experts, veterinarians, and conservation groups published an open letter warning of systemic failures in how these products are regulated, allowing harmful chemicals to persist in everyday use.

Sign the petition now to urge the government to restrict these treatments, strengthen regulation, and protect songbirds from further harm.
