My name is Eric, and I run I Love Every Dog. I'm asking Faulkner County Prosecuting Attorney Carol Crews to make sure Sam Hudson and Kathy Hudson face the maximum sentence available and never own another animal, after eleven dogs were found starving inside their abandoned Mayflower, Arkansas, home.
When officers went into the house on North Main Street, they found dogs of every age, from puppies to full-grown adults, severely malnourished and covered in skin sores, locked in cages caked with feces and urine. By the time rescuers could stabilize them, four of the eleven dogs had already died.
The Hudsons were first arrested in July on eleven misdemeanor counts each. But medical exams on the surviving dogs told a different story than a misdemeanor, and this month prosecutors upgraded the charges to eleven felony counts each of aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat, or horse. Both were rearrested on September 11 and are now being held in the Faulkner County jail without bond.
Four dogs are dead. Seven more are recovering from neglect severe enough to leave permanent damage. This is exactly the kind of case Arkansas's felony animal cruelty law exists for, and I'm asking Prosecuting Attorney Crews to pursue every one of those twenty-two felony counts and ask the court for the toughest sentence the law allows, plus a permanent ban on the Hudsons ever owning an animal again.
