Petition to Protect East Abaco Creeks

We, the undersigned, ask that the Government of The Bahamas move swiftly to establish the East Abaco Creeks National Park thereby protecting the wetland ecosystem of Snake Cay Creeks, Bight of Old Robinson and Cherokee Sound. The proposal was submitted in early 2010 after comprehensive and broad public consultation. This area represents key ecological habitats including tidal creeks, seagrass and algae beds, patch reefs, coppice, and an interconnected series of blue holes, and is an important cultural fishing ground for Abaco. The community would like the park established to ensure continued recreational and non-commercial fishing use of future generations.
