Thank President Obama for His Strong Support of the UN
In his first speech to the United Nations General Assembly, President Obama recognized that the UN is a vital institution for U.S. foreign policy.
Since taking office, President Obama has put engagement with the critically important global body on his priority list. Not only has the U.S. paid long overdue bills to the UN, we have also joined the Human Rights Council and started demonstrating real engagement with other nations.
In his speech, the president outlined how America would lead in addressing common challenges, but was also clear in stating that all countries must step up and work together to do the same. From nonproliferation to global warming, no nation can do it alone, and the UN is the only universal institution that can bring the world together.

Thank you for your excellent speech to the United Nations General Assembly on September 23. I believe the UN is a vital institution for U.S. foreign policy, and I was thrilled to hear you reiterate a similar theme in your speech.
Since taking office, you've shifted how the U.S. engages with this critically important global body. After paying our long overdue bills to the UN, joining the Human Rights Council and demonstrating real engagement with other nations, we are now in a better position to make the UN stronger and more effective and advance American interests.
From nonproliferation to global warming, no nation can do it alone, and the UN is the only universal institution that can bring the world together, as you said in your speech.
